LIFEBUOY. CASTLE BEACH. FALMOUTH
By Jules, Sep 27 2020 04:21PM
The storm happened the previous evening and the violently washed up pebbles did not make such a comfortable cushion as I Ieant against the cafe... my view was interesting...
Castle beach, Falmouth- that's right, no beach at high tide and the Castle was 180 degrees to my left.
I've used a little creative licence with the position of the lifebuoy, it's actually just out of sight, but if someone were in a pickle, it gives an accurate enough location. Composition won. It's just my interpretation of the scene.
The technique used for this series (and others) gives the impression it was printed, but it's down to years of experience, layering of paint and other materials, washing off and reworking until it's just perfect for the subject matter and the piece as a whole. It's risky and time consuming but worth it.
The Lifebuoy is created in plaster and is roughly shaped to begin, then applied to the work and is refined and sanded on the canvas. A labour of love :)
I will add little Lifebuoy pieces over time but I want to concentrate on more large scale beach scenes over the next few months and will have an exhibition of these when the time is right.
Another WHITE LINES piece is almost complete too...
