SEA ART

Several years ago I began to create sea circles. They were exhibited and appreciated.

I found they added an unapologetic focal point in a space and, just for the pure pleasure have now continued to create them.

For me they perfectly embody the beauty of the West country. I have used the textured plaster to depict the charm of the fishermans cottage ,and within, the colours of the sea.

These will shortly be available to buy, either directly through the website here and/ or ETSY.

I hope to, once again, exhibit some of these pieces alongside new seascapes that I am also currently working on.

Please check back again soon for further details.

It's so special to receive a card, now more than ever.

My Gyllyngvase beach painting is an image which people enjoy regardless of generation or lifestyle...this makes me so very happy! :)

I found that many of my postcards have been put into frames and are currently hanging in homes, which is so nice, for that reason I decided to use a 15 x 15cm card which is a good size to show the quality print reproduction, and keep a contemporary feel - if you were to frame one.

I will be selling prints in the near future, however, right now I must spend my time creating without distractions.

The card is blank inside, made from quality rigid greeting card board which is semi-gloss to the outer and matt to the inner. (The card is responsibly sourced and is certified by the FSC)

The envelope is 100% recycled.

The cellulose wrapper is biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. £3 each.

i WILL SOON BE SELLING THEM ONLINE BUT FOR NOW, THEY ARE AVAILABLE TO BUY FROM THE FOLLOWING PREMIUM STOCKISTS.:

Falmouth Bookseller

St Ives Bookseller

Padstow Bookseller

Henry's of Falmouth (High quality Coastal and country clothing)

So for me, it's time to settle down and paint.

Take care and take it easy,

All of the good times I've had there and the beautiful turquoise waters of Sennen made me want to paint this. It's taken months to complete, it's finished, and I couldn't be happier.

A white lines piece needs to be simple and clean to allow the texture and lines to make a statement...but there are more seascapes to be created and Sennen, without a doubt, will be included.

80x80cms

Mixed media and plaster on stretched canvas.

White painted wooden floating frame.

I'll check in again soon :)

Gylly is a beach to hang out with friends, paddle board on the calmer waters of Falmouth bay, build sandcastles and explore the rockpools with little ones...special memories are made here.

But it's also a place to be alone, to contemplate life's ups and downs. A place to be think, and find perspective when life throws up a challenge.

I wanted this painting to reflect all of these moments. A cloudy sky and subdued palette but with the blue of the sea offering optimism that the sun will peak through at any moment.

The headlands and sand are flat colour. This visually balances and enhances the textural sea and realistic sky. Pendennis castle and St Anthony's lighthouse are simple silhouette and minimal shape.

The original painting is 100cms x 100cms and was shown for some time in the lounge of the Falmouth Hotel. It has now sold.

This being a popular piece as a postcard, I have decided to have greetings cards professionally printed and will be shortly be available to buy online and from selected stockists. I will give more details soon...

GYLLYNGVASE BEACH. JULIE A. DANIELS
GYLLYNGVASE BEACH. JULIE A. DANIELS

The storm happened the previous evening and the violently washed up pebbles did not make such a comfortable cushion as I Ieant against the cafe... my view was interesting...

Castle beach, Falmouth- that's right, no beach at high tide and the Castle was 180 degrees to my left.

I've used a little creative licence with the position of the lifebuoy, it's actually just out of sight, but if someone were in a pickle, it gives an accurate enough location. Composition won. It's just my interpretation of the scene.

The technique used for this series (and others) gives the impression it was printed, but it's down to years of experience, layering of paint and other materials, washing off and reworking until it's just perfect for the subject matter and the piece as a whole. It's risky and time consuming but worth it.

The Lifebuoy is created in plaster and is roughly shaped to begin, then applied to the work and is refined and sanded on the canvas. A labour of love :)

30x30cms.

I will add little Lifebuoy pieces over time but I want to concentrate on more large scale beach scenes over the next few months and will have an exhibition of these when the time is right.

Another WHITE LINES piece is almost complete too...

A few photo's taken this week...it's good to take time out, explore, and find inspiration for new artworks. A chilled time at Contantine bay...

Cornwall is so beautiful on a wild and windy day.

I'll check in again soon...stay safe.

HARBOUR WALL - COLD. COPYRIGHT JULIE A. DANIELS 2020
HARBOUR WALL - COLD. COPYRIGHT JULIE A. DANIELS 2020

At just 20x20cms this small piece captures perfectly the feeling as I looked out to the cold, choppy waters on a harsh winter's day. The grey lines have been used to add a chillier feeling to the "sky".

The harbour wall texture has been a sucessful recurring element in my work. As a designer I have created variations of it on 50x70cm pieces of hand painted designs in repeat.

It has been very popular. It has been manufactured as wallpaper in Sweden among other uses. I wish I could show you the finished product, however, due to copyright, contracts, and the companies wishing to market it as their own design, it is impossible.

Unfortunately these restrictions apply to all of my design work sold through the Swiss studio. I can and will incorporate as many of my techniques learned and developed over the years into my fine art pieces...it's just going to take a little time...

It's a long process...a very long and dusty process... but the results are part of what makes the work unique.

Beautiful 3 dimentional lines. Simple and refined.

These are having a final sanding and then are about three coats of paint away from being part of my new piece - Sennen. I'm eager and excited to see it complete...

I'll check in very soon to show the finished artwork.

Take it easy...

The beautiful lichen spotted roofs and pure sailing elements of Falmouth and St Mawes were the inspiration for two contemporary artworks.

My signature textural sea and plaster have been used, it gives a strong contrast against the soft realistic sky.

I have used my skills as not only an artist, but also as a designer, to create this work and it feels as if this is a series I will continue with...it was a real pleasure...

Each piece measures 50×50cms on stretched canvas, mixed media and plaster and framed in a wooden floating frame.

Soon to be available as prints and greetings cards.

Not for sale at present.
